Electronic Devices Directive

Personal Possessions – TIFGroup

Following the recent announcement from the British Government on recent ban on large electronic devices being carried in hand luggage for journeys to the UK from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Specifically, anything larger than 16cm by 9.3cm by 1.5cm will now have to be checked into the hold, for example laptops, tablets, and phones larger than the above measurements.

tifgroup understand that this sudden change in regulation will have an impact on travellers and as such we will be looking to provide cover for these items under tifg underwritten schemes and gadget cover up to the limits set out in the policies for those travelling from the above countries.

We will also be working with our partners where separate gadget cover is provided to provide cover where possible.

We would also strongly suggest the following precautions are taken:

  •  If packing your electronic devices in your suitcase, ensure they are securely packed. A top tip is to put the device in bubble wrap and place in the middle of your suitcase with a good quality lock on the case
  •  Once you’ve collected your baggage from the collection point, check your laptop, electronic device or tablet straight away. If you find it’s missing or damaged, report the details to the airline in writing and request a Property Irregularity Report (PIR)
  •  If you do have any loss or damage, a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) must be obtained from the airline carrier
  •  Keep all travel tickets and luggage tags to help support any claim
  • Where electronic devices are required to be stored in hold luggage to comply with the new measures, we will cover loss or damage up to the policy limits and subject to all other policy terms and conditions

In the event that you have specific questions not answered by this directive, please feel free to contact us on and we will endeavour to offer an answer.
